Two buildings burned in Ferrisburg last night, a house and an old church. The fires began within an hour of each other and ran parallel for a long time, overwhelming local fire departments. The house was about 2 miles directly out my back door and the old church was maybe a half-mile down the road. The fires seemed too close for coincidence, and the implication of double arson in a small town was chilling.
1.
A trail of embers
lift high into the night sky,
birds released by fire
2.
Bright embers rising
float into the firmament
like escaping stars
